WHAT IS LAMMAS?

Lammas is a celebration of harvest; it’s the realisation that the green earth’s energies and bustling growth are beginning to slow down, darker and colder days will arrive soon and summer is coming to an end. The warm days are still lingering, the sun god is losing his strength; he is finishing putting his energies into the earth now, producing the first of the two harvests, but he has not yet come to an end. The goddess’s condition has now changed; she is the grain mother. She will dry the crops and let the seeds fall from them into the earth now, where they will rest all through winter, returning at Imbolc. The main theme of Lammas is fulfilment: the earth is producing a harvest and providing us with food.
